Enriching Intentional Youth Program Experiences Through Preflection, Action, and Reflection

We examined effects of preflection, action, and reflection sessions on youth experiences during a 4‑H travel camp. The camp was one component GLOBE, 2-year Texas 4-H program with intentional goals advancing understanding agriculture, poverty, world cultures. In morning preflection sessions, the 28 participants were instructed to take photographs their day according themes aligned 1 2 program’s goals: building global citizenship poverty. Each ended session. Youth viewed slideshow themed photographs. After slideshows, completed questionnaires measuring elements quality subjective slideshow: meaningfulness, perceived value time spent, engagement, absorption, self-affirmation, provocation. affirmation sequence yielded significantly greater meaningfulness spent. Effects mediated by immediate provocation, engagement.
